Aurora Chamber of Commerce
A star was born in 1903 when local leaders christened Aurora after a particularly brilliant display of northern lights (aurora borealis). Located on the east end of the Iron Range and connecting the Iron Range to the North Shore of Lake Superior via the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway, today's Aurora still has a particularly brilliant future.
The construction of our new K-12 school has been recently completed. These new facilities and state-of-the-art equipment allow our children to succeed in today's highly technical world. Mesabi East students now have a new, safe learning environment complete with the latest technology and sophisticated equipment. The new Lake St. James Multi-Purpose Trail has been completed offering a beautiful scenic view of Lake St. James and safe access to the area's existing trails, including the Mesabi Trail and Giants Ridge trail systems. Improvements to other existing trails, including those in Pine Grove Park are also planned, enhancing recreation opportunities for our citizens and tourists in our area. Aurora's Wastewater Treatment Facility has also recently been completed. Aurora is now able to provide quality service for its citizens and can sustain substantial growth in the local housing and business development. Known for its excellent drinking water, Aurora will also begin renovations on it's Water Plant in the next five years.
Family health care services are provided by our local hospital and nursing home, clinic, dental clinic, independent physical therapy facility and a private chiropractic practice. Services within Essentia Health Northern Pines (formerly the White Community Hospital) include a podiatrist, a physical therapy wing, sleep lab, heliport and new vision center. Aurora residents are served by our well-trained Volunteer Fire Department, First Responders and local Sheriff's Department. Our Community/Senior Center is available for rent for community functions, weddings, etc. An excellent public library adjoins the historic City Hall, which offers visitors a self-guided pictorial tour of the past century of life in Aurora.
