A star was born in 1903 when local leaders christened Aurora after a particularly brilliant display of northern lights (aurora borealis). Located on the east end of the Iron Range and connecting the Iron Range to the North Shore of Lake Superior via the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway, today's Aurora still has a particularly brilliant future.
It has been one year since the Mesabi East referendum passed for building upgrades and a new physical education/athletic complex. Most of the building upgrades have been completed. The major building upgrades included new pool bleachers, remodeling of the 3rd floor for new classrooms, moving the fitness center to the board room and adding a restroom to the new fitness center. The new filter system for the pool and the new lights and sound in the auditorium will be completed when there is down time in the rooms. The physical education/athletic complex has had its set backs but will be taking bids in February. The construction on the property would start as soon as possible with most of it being done after the frost leaves the ground. The plan is to be able to play football and soccer in the fall of 2019. The baseball fields and track would be available to use in the spring of 2020! Check out the Groundbreaking Ceremony from 4/10/19!
